Between never-ending legal battles and sudden separations, 2024 was quite the year for celebrity breakups. Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck—yes, for a second time. Andrew Garfield split from his “professional witch” girlfriend Kate Thomas while Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter shattered Gen Z hearts when they called it quits after a little over a year together. Even the recently engaged (and future Alpha Gang co-stars) Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz are no longer together. 2024 was also the year when the embroiled ex-lovers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally reached a divorce settlement after eight years in court.

Of course, splitting from a significant other is never something one jots down on their New Year’s resolution list. But, alas, that’s often the way things go when it comes to Hollywood love stories—the ones in real life, not those portrayed on the silver screen, of course.

Here, the biggest celebrity breakups of 2025.

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson are officially headed for divorce just months after it was rumored the pair “live separates lives.” Simpson confirmed the separation in a statement released to People on January 13, calling the situation “painful.”

Simpson, 44, and Johnson, 45, share three children: daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11. The former couple, who met through a mutual friend, married in 2014 after four years of dating.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” the statement read. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren are reportedly going their separate ways after 16 years of marriage. Per TMZ, the couple recently separated and are in the process of filing for divorce. They share three children together: Honor, 16, Haven, 12, and Hayes, 7.

Alba and Warren, a film producer, first met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2004. Warren, who was working as an assistant on the film, popped the question three years later. The couple tied the knot in 2007 during an intimate courthouse ceremony.

Alba, 43, and Warren, 45, are still “friends and all about the kids,” according to an insider. “No matter what's going on right now, it seems they will remain close,” the source added.

After months of speculation, news broke on January 7 that Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler had officially ended their relationship after three years together. According to reports from TMZ, the couple called it quits at the tail end of 2024.

Despite their breakup, insiders claim that there is no bad blood between the former lovers. “The relationship just simply ran its course,” a source said.

Gerber, 23, and Butler, 33, first got together in 2021 before hard-launching their relationship at the Met Gala the following year. Aside from the occasional red carpet outing, the former couple was notoriously private with the relationship. “Honestly, I feel like so few things in my life are private, and that is one of the things that I try to keep as sacred as possible,” Gerber said of her relationship in early 2024.

Naomi Osaka and Cordae

Tennis star Naomi Osaka announced her split from the rapper Cordae at the start of the year. She shared a message to her Instagram story on January 6 outlining the reasons for their breakup.

“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” Osaka wrote. “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because our daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”

Osaka and Cordae, both 27, share a daughter named Shai whom they welcomed in July 2023. The former couple began dating in 2019.
