Chappell Roan’s The Fifth Element Flight Attendant Cosplay Is First Class

Chappell Roan’s love of cosplay continued at the Daisy Chain Fields this past weekend, where the singer took the stage in a look straight from The Fifth Element. Roan dressed up as one of the 1997 sci-fi film’s Fhloston Paradise space shuttle flight attendants, complete with their signature bob. “Really lived out my Fifth Element fantasy,” the singer wrote on Instagram.

The ensemble, created by Michael Schmidt Studios and styled by Genesis Webb, was pretty true to the original designed created by Jean Paul Gaultier for the film. Roan wore a purple bustier top with a cutout below the bust and a collared bolero on top. Cuffs on the bolero and a fold over detail at the waist of the matching mini skirt were the largest departures from the original design. Roan topped the look with a movie-accurate hat featuring attached wings, which she wore over a short red bob. While the Fhloston Paradise flight attendants have white hair, Roan was not willing to sacrifice her signature color.

The singer donned this futuristic look to perform at the first annual Daisy Chain Fields. The festival, organized by Olivia Rodrigo, raised over $20 million, which will be distributed to 10 women- and girl-focused non-profit organizations. Alongside Roan and Rodrigo, Doechii, Mitski, and Bikini Kill took the stage during the day-long event, as did Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, and surprise guest Alanis Morissette.

Roan expressed her thanks to Daisy Chain and Rodrigo on Instagram, adding that Rodrigo is “so inspiring in so many ways.”

“We need artists like [you] who use their platform for good and are such a light in the world,” she continued. “Thank you for being you and supporting artists like me, [you] have changed my life in so many ways.”

The singer, who closed out her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour in March, expressed her pleasure in getting on stage at Daisy Chain Fields after months away. “I didn’t realize how much I missed it,” she said. She will return to performing once again in October for her two-day event The Super Graphic Spectacular, a fundraiser for her non-profit, The Midwest Princess Project. Considering Roan has become known for her elaborate costumes that have transformed her into a medieval clown, the Statue of Liberty, and a taxi cab in the past, we can probably expect more cosplay coming to the stage in the fall.
