Dua Lipa Puts a Textural Twist on the LBD for Her Pre-Birthday Dinner
As the undisputed queen of La Vacanza lifestyle, Dua Lipa trains all year for a birthday trip to Ibiza. The star turns 31 on August 22, and naturally, she started the celebrations early by putting a main-character spin on the classic black dress.
On Friday, Lipa—currently vacationing on the Balearic island with her family—shared an Instagram carousel in a glamorous pre-birthday outfit. With a high-neck silhouette and a straight cut, her all-black column dress was both simple and full of aesthetic intrigue. Though the front was unadorned, the back was Lipa-level interesting, featuring an open halter design that plunged at the sides. It was also lined in fringe trim, adding avant-garde texture to the LBD formula. For a final hit of high-octane accessorizing, she opted for a sculptural gold bangle.
Though it was full of precise details, the LBD was perhaps the most pared-back piece in Dua Lipa’s birthday-trip wardrobe. So far, her Ibiza outfits have leaned into color-blocking and pattern play. On a beach trip, she paired a polka-dot bikini from With Jéan with royal blue baggy basketball shorts. She amped up the outfit with a crab pearl choker and her beloved gold bangle. For a yachting day with her siblings Rina and Gjin, Lipa wore a leopard-print bikini and big gold hoops.
The superstar’s packing strategy includes a strong rotation of accessories. This was the case with her outfits just last week, when she was in Portofino wearing sculptural flower earrings, stacked rings, and a colossal Chanel basket bag. (Her go-to gold bangle also made an appearance.) Needless to say, Dua Lipa is a seasoned pro at vacation dressing, and her birthday trip is no exception.
While most summers see her travelling across Europe, the singer spent much of July in New York City, recording new music and supporting her husband Callum Turner at the premiere of his film One Night Only. In recent weeks, however, she has been firmly committed to closing out the season on a Euro-Summer note. As she prepares to ring in another year, it’s good to see Lipa once again honoring her passion for the beach.
